Overall Rating

With an impressive 39-point AF system, very high image quality at over 24MP, 5fps burst rate, straight forward user interface and Wi-fi & GPS support the Nikon D5200 really is a great camera. The impressive auto focus does let it down slightly by taking time to render the focusing to the user display, but this is only an issue in high speed situations when using the display rather than the viewfinder.

Build Quaility

The Nikon D5200 is a very well built camera, like its predecessor the D5100 it can stand a few knocks and still comes out fine. However, whilst the body is very well put together the layout of some of the buttons could be improved. For example the lack of a dedicated ISO setting button may be enough to question the choice of camera we still found it nice to use.

Value For Money

At present the D5200 is reasonably priced for a good quality entry level DSLR for beginners and seasoned users alike, there are both cheaper and more expensive cameras around offering similar features but the D5200 does offer good bang for your buck.

Style

With its average size body and well fitted pop out screen the D5200 is a good looking camera, the well positioned soft grip and easy reach quick buttons the camera not only looks good but fits well in your hands.
